I used to only bring my toothbrush and toothpaste and just use hotel body wash, soap, shampoo, and conditioner or if I wasn’t staying in a hotel, but the cheapest I could find once I got there, but once I got used to using my products, I noticed a huge difference I didn’t notice before and couldn’t go back!! I thought I’d share what I bring for trips! While this may look like a lot, keep in mind this is my husband’s and mine and included in the above picture are the extra things I listed below that I only bring on long trips! Everything is rated 3 or below on Think Dirty App or EWG. If you’re not familiar with those 1-3 are safe, any number above that is questionable.
Skincare:
- At home I use cleansing oil, complexion mist, then fancy face serum in the AM and soothing serum in the PM. If it’s winter and my skin is extra dry, I also use beauty balm, but for trips, I just pack the bare minimum. The above is what I can get by on and still keep my skin happy. I put the turmeric stick on whenever I notice a blemish starting (typically that time of the month or after flying) and it can often stop it before it begins and if not, at least calm it down (“christianne10” for 10% off Primally Pure first order!)
Multipurpose
- We use this for body wash for all of us (safe for babies and toddlers!), hand soap, dish soap (the all purpose spray or hand soap), laundry detergent (just use 1 teaspoon concentrate per load of you don’t have the laundry bottle!), dishwasher detergent (1 scoop oxygen boost, 1 teaspoon concentrate), for stain removal, and we use it to wipe down wherever we are staying and the airplane! I cannot go without my BB, so Dal and I always take it whenever we travel! Click here for $10 off, but as I e mentioned before, there are other awesome products out there too, just check EWG and/or Think Dirty app to ensure ingredients are clean. Or you can even use baking soda, vinegar, lemon, etc:)
Feminine Hygiene
- I always bring some of these just in case especially since I order them and can’t get them at the store. I have a post coming about why it’s important, but ensuring what we put in our most vulnerable areas is organic, fragrance free, and pesticide free is so important!! I love Lola but have also used Cora tampons and pass and Rael pads (haven’t tried their tampons). I love them all equally and each of the websites has a discount for your first order.
Hair care
- For me, I use the Innersense shampoo, conditioner, detangler, and dry shampoo. I get the Innersense off Amazon. We all use Innersense for shampoo for shorter trips, but longer, everyone brings their own 🙂
- Dal uses the hairspray and gel and LO uses the hairspray and detangler
Makeup
- As you can tell from the pic, I’m not a huge makeup person! This is all the makeup I own with the exception of brow powder and gel (need to buy some more), so I just bring it all when I travel 🙂
- The brand is 100% Pure and I love most of it but the eyeliner isn’t my favorite.
Jewelry
- I’m not a big jewelry person either, but I do love my simple, sentimental stuff, so I typically pick one fav necklace to bring and one favorite piece of earrings and that way it goes with everything and and I don’t end up losing anything!!
- The earrings were a gift from my parents and the necklace is a Made by Mary
For Body
- I love Primally Pure for deodorant and this is their travel size blue tansy which I love, but I just tried the lavender in the larger version and I think it’s my new favorite!!
- Dal prefers the Tom’s unscented
- I bring the Everything Spray anytime we go anywhere! It is a lifesaver. We spray it on cuts, burns (from hot stuff), sunburns, mosquito bites, anything that itches, small cuts, etc. We even gave one to someone close to us who was going through radiation and got burnt from it and had blisters and everything and they said it was so helpful!
For Longer Trips
- I’ve never brought the above items, but we’re going for a little it longer this time, so I decided to bring a little bit more!
- I’ve been dying to have some quiet time and just take a nice bath and will finally have a minute, so I’ll be bringing some of the bath salts in a Stasher bag!
- The body oil I use as shaving cream, after shower, and on my hair right before curling or right after shower (only a tiny bit!). I usually just use Branch Basics for shaving if it’s a shorter trip, but I’m going to try and bring it since it’s a little longer!
- I usually don’t bring the body butter, beauty cream, or dry brush, but since we’ll be in the sun a lot, it’ll be helpful!
- The Carina is Dal’s shampoo (switched from Head and Shoulders)
- The bug spray is obvious, but bring it for places we know will be buggy!
- Still looking for a good sunscreen! Haven’t worn it in years and don’t unless it’s a long day at beach or pool since it blocks vitamin D and I don’t burn easily.
- If I will have access to a dryer for an extended period of time, I try to bring my wool dryer balls. I got mine at Trader Joe’s for I think $5. If I don’t bring them I just dry my clothes without them and without dryer sheets
LO’s Stuff
- We love Primally Pure baby balm. It can be used as lotion, diaper cream, and even nipple cream for new mamas!
- Honest company diaper cream!
- Honest Company Shampoo and Body Wash (can also use BB for body wash and Innersense for shampoo)
- Hello Bello diapers and wipes. We’ve tried Honest Company and other natural ones, but these are best quality for price. We love them!
Not Pictured, but always used:
- White noise machine. We love this one. It makes such a difference in LO’s sleeping that we don’t go anywhere without it! we just plug it in in the opposite side of the room because the EMF’s from it are high.
- Stasher bag (in the first pic)- we pack EVERYTHING in these. All toiletries, snacks, etc. They are awesome and protect your clothes against leaking too
- Revitin toothpaste. Keeps the good bacteria in your mouth and your microbiome balanced
- Pill sorter for any vitamins
- Compact inexpensive stroller for traveling that we don’t have to stress about. We also bring a stroller bag to keep parts together and keep it clean
- We bring our own car seat to ensure LO has one we’re confident with and use a stroller cover to protect it and mini dolly because it was so hard on Dal’s back without it!
- Herbal tea (organic dandelion is my go to!)
New Items I’m trying this trip
- Travel air purifier. Dal will use it under his desk at work when not using it for travel
- Silicone travel containers. I filled one with water, squeezed shook, stored it on its side and there was no problem, but the real test will be flying! I’ll report back!
- Swim diapers. Made with good materials, better for the environment, and cheaper in the long run. We bought 3 and hopefully it works well! We love cloth diapers when baby is 100% breast fed, but transition to disposable once the majority of baby’s diet is solid (cleaning process changes at that point), but haven’t tried swim diapers! I’ll report back and update this post!
- Not pictured, but we just switched to air pods to protect from EMFs. I’ll update this post with our thoughts! We’re still looking for some for LO!
What We Bring On The Plane
- LO LOVES to bring a small little carry on. In it, we put a coloring book and markers (the kind that only show up on that book so we don’t damage any property!!), 2 books, 2-3 small toys (not the absolute favorites though in case they get lost, 1-2 small and SMALL presents (we typically never spend more than $5!) wrapped to keep LO occupied and obsessed with something! LO’s headphones, an iPad fully charged and with shows downloaded so it can be on airplane mode and have less radiation.
- I Bring my dark Mary Poppin’s purse that can be easily wiped down! In it I have my ID, credit card, BB Foam Soap and All Purpose spray, microfiber cloth for wiping down everything in our seats on the plane, travel size tissues, headphones, phone charger, chapstick, and a Stasher bag full of healthy snacks. We bring healthy snacks but also healthy treats that will keep us all, especially LO happy 🙂 (Perfect Bars, Perfect Bar pb cups, Chokps sticks, Epic bars, Go Raw spirulina seeded bars, crackers and cheese, Honey Mama chocolate). I keep everything in compartments since I can’t stand a messy purse
- Backpack that dal wears. In this we have enough diapers and wipes for the day, small diaper pad, travel size tissues, headphones, phone charger, extra outfit for LO and wet bag in case any clothes get soiled, and reusable water bottle
What We Wear
- I wear my plane “uniform” of black Pact pocket leggings, a black v neck, and gray sweater I don’t really care abt with my black pregnancy Nike’s (since your feet are bigger in pregnancy) I bought on a crazy sale years ago that are a size bigger since my feet have always swelled on flights
- LO wears a pair of dark comfy sweats with tennis shoes
- DAL wears his plane uniform of black joggers with his grey workout top. While we’re not exactly the most stylish, IG worthy people on the plane, wearing our dark clothes makes it a loss less stressful when inevitably LO or us spills something on ourselves, we accidentally sit on a grease spot, etc!
Random Tips
- If you don’t have empty reusable water bottles to bring or when we forget ours, we buy 2-3 glass water bottles (Voss is a good brand airports typically have). Always buy 1 extra water bottle than you think because you can always drink it after if it’s not used, but it stinks running out and not being able to get more! This way you’re not at the mercy of the beverage cart and don’t get dehydrated. If you do have reusable bottles, be sure to fill beforehand.
- If you travel a lot, I highly recommend TSA pre check. It lasts years. It costs money so isn’t worth it if you don’t fly often, but if you do and have kids, it’s a lifesaver! You can leave your electronics and liquids in the bag and don’t have to remove shoes, belts, jackets, etc. you also go through the metal detectors that don’t emit as much radiation. They do a background check on you first before giving you this to ensure it’s not a safety threat 🙂
- We use the American Express Delta card and between that and my husband’s business trips, we don’t go anywhere until we have the miles to pay for it. We put every single purchase on it and pay it back it off completely monthly. We’ve had to fly a lot the past few years for family, funeral’s, business school interviews, and to visit those who were sick. Between all of that, we’ve only paid for 2 flights in the past few years. We also use points for hotels. Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there for anyone else who needs/wants to travel a lot. We highly recommend! I have a discount, but always hesitate to share out of fear of sounding like the reason for the post is a sales pitch, when in reality it’s just to help!! So to not end the post on that note, message me if you want a link for discount 🙂
So there’s all the info you never asked for, but hopefully it was helpful!! happy travels! Feel free to contact me with questions or anything I might’ve left out that you’re curious abt!
