I hesitated to use this word for my blog since it’s associated with diets and I don’t believe in them, but it was the best word I could think of to encompass what the focus of this blog is.
This is not a diet blog, you won’t find calories, before and after pics, or anything of the sort on this blog it is about avoiding the toxicity in ALL areas of our lives: food, cleaning products, beauty products, toxic/self-deprecating thoughts, etc. thus “clean” – clean from all the toxicity. We believe in absolutely loving every part of yourself, of honoring every part of your story that got you to where you are today. This doesn’t mean you don’t have regrets, doesn’t mean you can’t have goals to improve, but it does mean that we believe in loving yourself every step of the way. We believe in eating healthy, exercising and avoiding toxicity, and loving where that leaves you and being at peace with yourself. That’s what “clean living” is to me: free of all the junk in our food, products, thoughts, and surroundings- ridding ourselves of all that is toxic.
This also means to us not guilting ourselves or our children when they don’t want the healthiest thing, but teaching ourselves and our children to love food and appreciate all its healing/wonderful properties and as a result, desiring that more than the toxic food. Our desire is to find and create delicious, healthy food and recipes that help others to love the incredible healing properties of food.
Lastly, we believe in balance and doing what works best for you and your family. If you’ve ever heard of intuitive eating, I really believe in that core message of listening to your body and giving it what it truly wants/needs. The overarching message does not believe processed food or sugar or toxins should be avoided, so I don’t ascribe to that part of it, but love the idea of just being in-tune with your body and understanding that means the same eating style won’t work for everyone. For us personally, that looks like having a few Cadbury eggs and not feeling bad or guilty during Easter time if that’s what we want but then trying to have that be a very small aspect and surrounding ourselves with the healthy, wholesome food. As I mentioned, we’re abt 90% real, whole, natural food, 10% not, but this isn’t a strict science, it’s just all things in moderation and trying to provide enough healthy, delicious options for our family that the toxic isn’t our first choice. This is what works for us, but it may look different for you and you know what is best for you and your family.
It’s not about deprivation but about knowing what’s best for our bodies and filling our homes with that, so there’s not room for the toxic and eventually we don’t want the toxic, but allowing yourself the room to eat what you want and not feel bad about it and overtime, if in-tune with the body and feeding it nutrient-rich food, the body will naturally desire mainly wholesome food.
