Being a parent is so hard- so awesome but hard. For me and many parents, it’s easy to remember to sleep and eat healthy to feel our best to take care of our kids, but the “indulgent luxuries” that aren’t directly related are much harder and don’t feel important when compared to babies and children needing to be fed, changed, played with, laundry done, dishes clean, etc. all those things are obviously crucial, but I’ve found that incorporating just a few minutes of things that are “indulgent” like skin care, a fun drink, meditating, etc. really help me to recenter and fill my cup more so I have more to pour out for others, but also remembering that just being a human means I’m deserving of me time, whether you have children or not! We all need little bits of time that are just for us!
So, I’m the interest of finding tiny nuggets of time for myself during the day, I’ve been taking 5 min to make myself a mocktail and then listen to a book while I cook dinner. It sounds simple and small (and is!), but it turns trying to hurry and get dinner on to relaxing time to do something I enjoy! I also love cooking with LO instead of a book- it’s up to LO or how long of a day it’s been 😉
Anyway, now I’ve talked relentlessly about my mocktail time 😂 here’s my favorite recipe I’ve tried so far! It’s sweet and tangy and just the most refreshing drink!
Recipe notes:
- A kitchen scale is your best friend especially for mocktails
- This is a super flexible recipe. If you’re off by an ounce, it’s not going to destroy it
- I use maple syrup instead of agave
- Gerolsteiner is my favorite sparkling water brand
- For lemon and lime juice, I just keep big bottles of Santa Cruz brand in my fridge. It’s organic and not from concentrate and much easier than always trying to juice limes and lemons
- Maldon fancy sea salt flakes are my absolute favorite for the rim of the glass!!
