I LOVE steak! Steak and potatoes has to be one of my favorite meals, but I never cooked it because I was intimidated and we didn’t have a grill. It’s also expensive, but we decided about a year ago to really cut down our meat consumption and doing that allows us to make it about once a month. As for the cooking method, Lexi’s Clean Kitchen to the rescue!! She posted the best/easiest recipe for steak ever! Link and notes below! Enjoy!
Recipe Notes:
- A used a handful of thyme and rosemary
- I’d recommend ghee instead of butter since ghee has a higher smoke point
- This does make a lot of smoke, so if you have a smoke detector in the kitchen, I’d turn it off! Just make a note to turn it back on after! I always open the windows and run the fan before I even start!
- I’ve used almost every cut of steak with this and they all work great!
- Use a generous amount of salt to season. You really want to use more than you would think. I think kosher style is best. I love real salt Kosher style (here).
- We use Butcher Box and I love the quality of beef and fish, so I order the beef boxes, but I don’t like their chicken and pork quality (they feed them corn and soy and can’t guarantee non-GMO, so I would only recommend them for beef. It’s all grass fed/finished. I do however wish that it was organic as well, however finding organic, grass fed, and humanely raised is weirdly hard. Here is a code for $30 off a box. Its the best quality I’ve found on beef, but I’m still searching for a meat company that sources all meat organic, grass fed (or vegetarian for chicken and pigs), and free range, and humanely raised. But for now, Butcher Box is best quality I’ve found.
- I’ve only done this in a cast iron pan and highly recommend it. I like this one. I love never tried it in another pan so I can’t speak to results with that
- You do need a food thermometer for this. I love my Thermapen!
