I do Friday Favorites where I say what I’m loving or learning lately most Friday’s on IG, but realized I should put them in a post for those not on IG! For those new to this, it’s just what I’m loving lately. Never sponsored, but I do share discount codes if I have them, but it’s not my reason for sharing 🙂
- Paleo Running Momma’s Cookbook, “Paleo Baking at Home. I love her blog so knew I wanted to try the book!
- I LOVED the chocolate cake and cherry pie bars. My only complaint so far is the rolls are SO good, but don’t save well and are way too dry the next day
- Lindsay Freedman cookbook, “Cauliflower Power”. Every recipe has cauliflower and is so creative!
- So far all I’ve made is the cauliflower falafel and cauliflower cinnamon chocolate scones. Sounds weird, but SO good
- “White Fragility” by Robin DiAngelo. I felt a little weird about having my first book in this process be by a white person, but it came highly recommended and gives important perspectives for better listening and learning how to be better about race. It was incredibly eye opening and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. The only thing I disagreed with is that she said we’ll never get rid of racism. Though that may be true, I look at how much has changed since MLK gave his famous speech only 57 years ago. It gives me hope that though unfortunately I know it won’t be gone, things can even be different for my kids and their generation. I like to believe we can work and LO’s generation can work to get rid of it eventually so life will be different for our grandchildren or great grandchildren. I know there will always be people starkly racist as in hating a whole race, but I really believe and hope that by listening to Black people and people of all races and ethnicities, following their lead, and being willing to change, the world can become safer for them and drastically better. One of the huge takeaways for me from White Fragility, was when she said the way White people are taught about segregation, it’s never with the message that White people missed out on anything by being segregated. It’s so true. The majority of life changing things I have learned, I learned from putting aside pride and listening to those who look or think differently from me. As I mentioned in this post, I’m so grateful to Black people and POC who’ve chosen to share their stories and we’re under no obligation to do so and even knew by doing so, they’d likely be gaslighted and called horrible things. I’m grateful so many have chosen to speak out and I’m grateful for what I’ve learned and am continuing to learn. I’m now reading, “I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness” by Austin Channing Brown. I just started it today, but am looking forward to reading/learning more
- Audible
- Do you know the last time I actually read a physical copy and finished a book just for fun? While I was pregnant with LO, so… years ago 😬 I read my scriptures and listen to a talk/sermon each morning while making LO breakfast, but beyond that reading won’t work, but with audible I’m able to listen to at least 1/2 hr- 1 hr of books a day. I listen while I go on a walk and while I cook and get ready for bed. This is so fulfilling to have a little me time and time to improve myself and think extra deep while doing what needs to be done. I listen on 1.3x speed to read faster! I’m on my 6th book this year which otherwise wouldn’t have been possible, so wanted to share for any other people who want to read but feel they have no time 🙂
- They also let kids listen free while school is out 🙂
- Daily Harvest
- I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I was trying Daily Harvest and would let you know my thoughts. Here’s the story behind it. We were getting home from a long trip and I knew things would be crazy getting settled again, so I had a great discount and thought this would be a great way to get healthy food with minimal effort, however, I figured it would just be that week since it is expensive and didn’t feel sustainable, so I assumed it wouldn’t be a repeat, but knew it’d be helpful for us and if I liked it, I’d share for those who felt it was feasible.
- Long story short, we LOVED it! Not only does it taste amazing but we totally didn’t realize how much we’d love having something so fast. We talked and figured out where we could make cuts in our budget to make it work and did. It was so worth it! Anyway, just had to share for anyone interested 🙂 here’s $25 off for anyone interested. Dal and I each order 13 things in each box and eat 1 DH item each day. If we skip a day then we just will wait a little before ordering the next box 🙂
- Pros:
- SO healthy
- Nice to have diversity in flavors each time.
- I wouldn’t have the time to make many of these with all the different ingredients
- While it doesn’t save money, I couldn’t buy all the different ingredients and eat that much variety each day. Usually I just pick 1 smoothie and drink it all week long, so this is nice 🙂
- Organic and quality ingredients
- There is a discount for ordering 26 items, so that takes it down at least a little.
- Going grain and dairy free has been tricky at times and they have LOTS of options for me 🥳 they also have grain bowls, oat bowls, soups, chia bowls, df ice cream, and energy bites in addition to smoothies!
- Cons:
- Price. It’s organic with quality ingredients. While I understand why it’s expensive, I wish it weren’t!
- Some of them have citric acid, so read the ingredients before ordering if you like to avoid that as well. Also, some of the savory dishes have nutritional yeast, so again read the label if you avoid that.
- Some of the smoothies are just fruit, so we try to only order the smoothies with veggies too
- Dal’s favorite is the mint cacao smoothie
- My favorite is the black sesame smoothie and ice cream. Others I like are: kale coriander flat bread, mint cacao, chocolate blueberry, tart cherry and raspberry, carrot and cinnamon, chai and coconut smoothies.
- I know it’s not feasible for everyone and so I hesitated talking so much abt it, but decided to because I know it could be so helpful for so many
As always, I hope it’s clear that I’m sharing what I love, but the last thing I ever want is for anyone to feel pressured into buying something they can’t afford or to feel that it’s something they can’t live without! We all know you can make pretty great DIYs of most things and there are very few things we really can’t live without, so when I’m sharing it’s just for those who are interested ❤️ I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
