My husband went on a business trip a while back where he tried Chicken Katsu and he’s been begging me to make it for a while now, but I couldn’t find a grain free version and every recipe I found looked a million ingredients we’d only use once when making this dish, so I put it on hold. Fast forward to finding Clean Foodie Cravings’ IG and I’ve been drooling over all her amazing recipes for a while and have a whole list of ones I want to try, but when browsing one day, I saw chicken katsu, and saw it was grain free and used simple ingredients I’d use again, I knew that was the first one I had to try!
I LOVED it, but have never tried Chicken Katsu, so was curious on his take. Sure enough, Dal was obsessed with it and so was LO (wahoo!!) and said it tasted just like the chicken katsu he’d wanted to recreate at home! 🥳 Hope you give it a try! It’s a fun, different dish that tastes incredible!
Recipe here.
Recipe notes:
- I love spice, but Dal can’t handle any, so I reduced the smoked paprika to 1/4 teaspoon. And it was great- I may even fully omit next time
- Dal isn’t a coconut fan, so I blended it first just until it was in tiny pieces – worked great!
- I used avocado oil instead of ghee
- I used tenderloins instead of chicken breasts and didn’t butterfly because I’m lazy😉
- Served ours with roasted white sweet potatoes, roasted broccoli, and quinoa
Enjoy! This dish is incredible, simple, and allergen friendly
